This weeks Flashback Friday from mocha with Linda well will be a flash-forward for me.
I have not yet graduated, but I figured might as well put what I've dreamed of my graduation to be like.
This weeks prompt:
Tell about your senior year in high school. Were there any special traditions such as getting a senior ring? Were there lots of activities and parties as you neared graduation? Were you in any extra-curricular activities that had traditional "rites of passage" or "passing the baton" too the next class? Were awards given out - either serious or fun? Did you send out graduation announcements? Did your school have a Baccalaureate Service in addition to the graduation ceremony? If you attended church, did your church recognize/honor Seniors in any way? Did you keep your tassel - did you hang it from the mirror of your car or do something else special with it? What sorts of things did you get for graduation gifts? Was it a tradition to display the gifts in your home?
I have always thought that I would live in CT for my whole life, stay in school, and of course graduate from the small town high school. I would be in the white satin gown (White for girls, blue for boys). I would be surrounded by my friends when I graduated, people that I would have gone to school with for years! The next Sunday, I would then go to church for Bachaloret Sunday in which the pastor E and the Superentendant of the schools would speak about the whole graduating class, say where we were going to college and our major, or where we are going to work.
After church I would go home and we would have a huge graduation party with family and friends! It would be a dream come true.
Now for the more realistic part of being homeschooled. I think I'm going to force my mom to buy a cap and gown because I want one! Okay, maybe just the tassel. There won't be a graduation ceremony, for the fact that I'm getting my GED hopefully before I'm 18, and then taking my SATs and PSATs. Applying to college and the end.
Sorry Linda to make you feel like a whole different senority! I say, do what my great grandfather always did. When ever asked your age add ten years, and you'll look really good for your age!

I've known some home schoolers who do have a little ceremony with other home schoolers, or who graduate with the senior class of a local Christian school if they've taken courses or participated in activities there. Is either of those a possibility? If not I hope you'll get to have at least some kind of open house or reception to mark the occasion.
That's funny about your grandfather's advice on aging!
The homeschoolers we know have had group graduations with other homeschoolers.
Maybe my graduation story and lack of celebration will make you feel better.
Great advice for us oldies. Thanks, Cae's gt. grandfather!
My kids have all been homeschooled, so they've experienced what you will! My only student left at home is my only daughter, who will graduate next year. But we'll be on the road, traveling for our ministry - so not sure what we'll do for her.
That's fun you participated and gave a flash forward today.
Have a great weekend.
There are many, many good things about home schooling, but sometimes missing the group things can be a bummer. I am glad you have made other positive goals. Because I didn't get to attend my high school graduation, it made my college graduation that much more special.
Barbara H.-We're not really part of a homeschooling group up here in MA, and I've told mom, we need to buy at least the tassel! I hope we'll have some type of party, just for the fun!
Linda-Glad you enjoyed his advice :) Since moving, we haven't found a homeschooling group. The only other homeschooler I know is Hunter, and he's graduating from college today.
Rita-Glad you enjoyed my Great Grandfather's aging advice ;)
Susan-Traveling sounds nice! I might actually be working on my "graduation"
BP- Well I decided I had to do something, I like the Flashback Fridays & Mocha with Linda too much! Enjoy your weekend!
Quilly-I never thought of my college graduation. . .Hmmmm thanks :) Homeschooling does have it's positives, and I'm finally aware of those ;)
Thank you for stopping by! Enjoy your weekend!
