Review: World Trade Center

9/11 marks a day on everyone's calendar, or at least on mine. It's usually a day of remembrance and a moment of silence for when the first tower was hit. By September 11th, 2001 my family was with my grandmother, who had cancer, more then anything. She would die one month late. World Trade Center is a fiction movie, based off of the events. I was a little concerned on how accurate it would actually be, but it was accurate, and scary to realize how well the film portrayed the country on 9/11. I will recommend a box of tissues, but this movie is a must see, this movie will help you remember what happened on that blue, blue sky of a day.

After the Twin Towers were hit, New York City officials decided to make a memorial to all who were lost, it is supposed to be opened in 2010, to check out the website go to Wtc.com.

God Bless

New England Assosication of Fire Cheifs 2010!

Okay, my dad sells fire trucks for Rosenbauer America, and every summer there is a fire truck show in New England for the fire truck. So yesterday dad, Bro #1, Bro #2, and I all went and helped set up the show for dad's company. We all met at dad's work and rode in different vehicles down to the Better Living building at the Big E over in West Springfield, MA. The show actually just opened up today, but set up is a lot of waxing of trucks and cleaning of trucks and organizing, so most vendors had to set up yesterday. I have to say, the show is amazing, and yes I helped clean eight trucks, but that just makes it more fun! I actually found my baby, the most amazing new fire truck that Rosenbauer carries, and of course I rode down in the North Brookfield fire truck. Can you say awesome? Well I'll be at the show this weekend helping my father out, but if your in the area come stop by and check out the show it's really fun!

My really awesome fire truck, which I will be getting for my touch-a-truck!!

North Brookfield's really awesome fire truck!!!

Better Nights Sleep

Okay, so as you all know, or don't know, I am a strong and devout Congregationalist, but recently I was given Rosary Beads. Now, I'm not Catholic but Rosary Beads are absolutely beautfiul, and I always look at them. Since I was given theRosary Beads it has become a practice for me to pray every night before bed, and then meditate a little bit after the prayer. I have to say, it's tough for me to pray every night and some nights I forget to pray, but the nights I do pray, it is easier for me to fall asleep and have a calm sleep. The comfort that the Rosary Beads bring me, is such a comfort, it is almost as if I'm holding a piece of string and God is holding the other end. These Rosary Beads have become my security blanket when I'm at home, and when ever something doesn't go right, I seem to be drawn to them and hold them and pray with them in my hands.

I don't know wether I have a stronger relationship with God, or maybe I'm just noticing these things, but when I take the time to think of God and devote myself to him, I sleep better, and feel comforted, almost as if I was sleeping with my parents.

Take Back Sundays!

I'm currently too tired to look through all my blog posts to see if I've already posted a blog on Sundays, so I'm going to write one anyways.

Sundays have always been known as the Sabbath. I believe that Sundays should be kept holy, but yet I see sports and other activities taking up Sunday mornings, which prevent people to keep the sabbath holy. Instead they have reasons not to go to church. Church has become an inconvenience and I never thought that I would become on of those people. I never thought that any activities I'm a part of, would prevent me from going to church. But yet, here I am writing this blog thirty minutes before church starts, not dressed in my church clothes, but in my outfit for my play tonight.

Congregations have dwindled, when was the last time that you saw your church packed? When was the last time that you saw it Standing Room Only? Okay, now when was the last time you saw the local stadium packed? The last play you went too, how many people where there? Church no longer takes up half your day, most of the time we're too busy to even go, but yet we don't mind. Church used to take the whole day, how much of an inconvenience would it have added to our lives today if we kept up with that custom?

I think that it is time to take back our Sunday! We need to make church the big thing, not the Celtics or Eagles or Patriots. We need to make church, and God, and family the big thing on Sundays. We need to take back our Sundays!

Eat, Pray, Love

I am listening Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert on a Book on CD, since I have come to realize why S wouldn't read books. There just isn't enough time in the day to do work, and school work, and house work, and this, and that, and read a book. So I'm taking S's view on reading books and I have started listening to them, yes I know, it's the feel of the book in your hand. I will still read books, but just not as many. Anyways, I have started to listen to Eat, Pray, Love with mom and learned that it will be coming out in theaters August 13th, a day before I get home from camp! I can't wait, and have seen the trailer multiple times!!

Am I a Fireman Yet?

I got a email yesterday from a friend, of course being teenagers it is a chain email, but being in the Kensington Fire Department Bro #1 had a meeting there, the subject was "Am I a Fireman Yet?" it struck my interest and instead of deleting it like usual, I opened it up to read. This story is extremely sad, so I wondered if it was true or if Ally just wanted to make me cry. So I went to Snopes.com and searched, sure enough it is a true story, so I figured it would make a good blog post, and maybe make someone else feel the same emotion.

Am I a Fireman Yet?

In Phoenix ,
Arizona , a 26 year-old mother stared down at her 6 year-old son, who was dying of terminal leukemia. Although her heart was filled with sadness, She also had a strong feeling of determination. Like any parent, she wanted her son to grow up &  fulfill all his dreams. Now, that was no longer possible..  The leukemia would see to that. But she still wanted her son's dream to come true. She took her son' s hand and asked, "Billy , did you ever think about what you wanted to be once you grew up? Did you ever dream and wish what you would do with your life?"
Mommy, "I always wanted to be a fireman when I grow up."  Mom smiled back and said, "Let's see if we can make your wish come true."

Later that day she went to her local fire Department in Phoenix , Arizona ,where she met Fireman Bob, who had a heart as big as Phoenix! She explained her son's final wish and asked if it might be possible to give her 6 year-old son a ride around the block on afire engine.

Fireman Bob said, "Look, we can do better than that. If you'll have your son ready at seven o'clock Wednesday morning, we'll make him an honorary Fireman for the whole day. He can come down to the fire station, eat with us, go out on all the fire calls, the whole nine yards! And if you'll give us his sizes, we'll get a real fire uniform for him, with a real fire hat - not a toy -- one-with the emblem of the Phoenix Fire Department on it, a yellow slicker like we wear and rubber boots."

"They're all manufactured right here in Phoenix ,  so we can get them fast."
Three days later Fireman Bob picked up Billy ,dressed him in his uniform and escorted him from his hospital bed to the waiting hook and ladder truck.
Billy got to sit on the back of the truck and help steer it back to the fire station. He was in heaven.

There were three fire calls in Phoenix that day and Billy got to go out on all three calls. He rode in the different fire engines, the Paramedic's' van, And even the fire chief's car. He was also videotaped for the Local news program.

Having his dream come true, With all the love and attention that was lavished upon him, so deeply touched Billy , that he lived three months longer than any doctor thought possible.

One night all of his vital signs began to drop dramatically and the head nurse, who believed in the hospice concept - that no one should die alone - began to call the family members to the hospital. Then she remembered the day Billy had spent as a Fireman, so she called the Fire Chief and Asked if it would be possible to send a fireman in uniform to the hospital to be with Billy as he made his transition. The chief replied, "We can do better than that.  We'll be there in five minutes. Will you please do me a favor? When you hear the sirens screaming and see the lights flashing, will you announce over the PA system that there is not a fire? It's the department coming to see one of its finest members one more time. And will you open the window to his room?"

About five minutes later a hook and ladder truck arrived at the hospital and extended its ladder up to Billy's third floor open window-------- 16 fire-fighters climbed up the ladder into Billy's room.
With his mother's permission, they hugged him and held him and told him how much they LOVED him. With his dying breath, Billy looked up at the fire chief and said, "Chief, am I really a fireman now?"
"Billy, you are, and the Head Chief, Jesus , is holding your hand," the chief said. With those words, Billy smiled and said, "I know, He's been holding my hand all day, and The angels have been singing." He closed his eyes one last time.

Five Reasons to Have Kids

So mom and I were talking about kids, and I have stated that I don't want any. . .Too many blood tests in my eyes, well mom then tells me that I have to clean the kitty litter (blech), soooo I come upstairs and go "Mom, I'm going to have kids!" so she goes, "Why? To clean the kitty litter?" she asks. I looked at her and said "Yes,". "Well, the KiDDy Litter is worse than the KiTTy litter," Mom said. So now I'm going to place a wanted ad in the paper stating "Wanted a person who won't mind cleanning kitty litter or kiddy litter, call (###) ###-#### for more information". Either that or my Italian husband will be doing all of that. So as I finished the conversation I go "In conclusion, that is why I think having kids is useful, Professor". So mom goes "Five Reasons to Have Kids", thus how the title comes, and there will be a list with five reasons to have kids!

Five Reasons to Have Kids!
1. To Clean the Kitty Litter!
2. They are just sooo cute, especially when they're babies!
3.To clean the dishes, maybe I won't get a dishwasher, its too much money ;)
4. An excuse to go to Starbucks, you always need caffeine when you're a parent
5. And they're a tax write-off, maybe I will be getting a dishwasher ;)

Lots of Love,

Facebook Update & Family Update

They're finally off! The painful three, or maybe four years of braces is finally complete! Thank God, okay so I have to wear a retainer, but it isn't that bad and only at night, but they're done. Over, no more metal visible! It feel so weird to not have any braces on my mouth. Bro #1 says, that I look like the Doggie Denture commercial without my braces on.

Also, the next couple months the blog picture will be used from my cousins Tea Room. She is just amazing, and has recently opened her own business up in Cromwell, CT! Peggi is just so nice, and is working on her dream! Mom and I stopped by Tea Roses Tea Room the other day, and it is amazing! Congrats Peggi, we're so happy for you!!

Extended Family

Hey look, It's Friday and I actually posted my Flashback Friday on Friday! Go Caelyn!! So this week's prompt from Mocha with Linda's Flashback Friday is:

Tell about any grandparents, cousins, or other extended family that was special to you growing up. Did they live near you or some distance away? Do you have any particular childhood memories (good OR bad!) of times spent with your grandparents? With your cousins? Did you spend holidays with them? At whose house did you generally gather? Do you still keep up with cousins, aunts & uncles, etc.? Did your paternal relatives and maternal relatives know and get along with each other?

Left to Right: Cousin Jan, Aunt Judy, Uncle Bob, Aunt Nancy, Rich (Aunt Nancy's husband), and Poppy

Despite my family, we are slightly normal! My extended family, on the other hand, well we won't say anything about them on here! I actually love my extended family, and with my mom's side they are a large Irish family and always amazing!

Let's see, my Aunt Nancy, rents the cottage at Hawk's Nest Beach usually one week, but is now living in Old Lyme, so it's usually well, I don't know she just moved down to Old Lyme a couple years ago. Aunt Nancy is the crazy, but totally awesome, aunt who has all of the family gatherings. You do Christmas Eve at Aunt Nancy's and even Santa Clause shows up! You go to the annual family reunion, which is set up by Aunt Nancy. Aunt Nancy is my mom's, adoptive mother's, sister? Get it?

There is also Cousin Jan! Cousin Jan is one of those twice removed cousins, so she's around my grandfathers age, but she is completely cool! I always love when I can spend some time with her, hopefully sometime this summer we can make it down, because I haven't seen her since last summer!

My Grandparents, okay so I have four sets of grandparents. I have Poppy & Grandma Booboo Foot (she died in 2001) these are my mom's adoptive parents. Then I have Grandma Out West, who is my mom's birth mom and lives out in Oregon. Then Grandpa Terry & Memere, Grandpa Terry is my dad's father, and Memere is his girlfriend. Last, but not least is Grandma Isabella and George, Grandma Isabella is my dad's mother and George is her boyfriend.

Poppy & Grandma were my favorite set, Poppy and I go to University of Hartford games when ever the two of us can make it, and we still meet for coffee whenever I'm back at my old town. Grandma was amazing, while mom & dad worked full time Grandma would watch Bro #1 and I, but she died in 2001 from cancer, and I miss her terribly.

Grandma Out West, I have only met once in my life, with the rest of my mom's birth family, but hopefully I'll be able to see her again this fall if I make it out to Oregon! Grandma Out West and I stay in touch through Facebook and email, and once and while we'll send a letter to each other!

Grandpa Terry and Memere would always take Bro #1 and I whenever mom & dad went on their "Couples Only Weekend", we would usually go to Saturday Mass, which I always thought is cool, even though I am Protestant I like experiencing different religions. Then we would probably do some yard work, which is alright, not my favorite thing to do, but I love spending time with Grandpa and Memere, since we don't get to see them all that often.

Grandma Isabella & George, Grandma and I are just trying to connect to each other, which is kind of cool.

My favorite memory is when I was five, during the winter Grandma BooBoo Foot and I and Bro #1 would make paper snowflakes in the finished basement and we would make a ton of paper snowflakes, and then for every season we would get the Slice-n-Bake from Pillsbury and we would eat one or two, raw, shhhhh don't tell my mom ;) And we would make the rest of the cookies. It was also the last piece of food that she ate in October, I made the cookies and she took one bite.

Now that my novel is completed, I will now link up to the Flashback Friday from Mocha with Linda!

Facebook Update

So, Bro #1 and I watched Chicken Little last night and we decided to recap the whole movie in the car ride home from rehearsal tonight. Bro #1 is very quite, but he managed to explain the whole 1 1/2 hour movie in 35 minutes, taking very little breaths. Awesome little brother? I think so!

Guess what movie, mom will be listening to on the ride down to CT? Chicken Little, baby!!!!

Tuesday Can Be Long, Fun, Boring, Surprising, and Scarry

Yesterday, what a day did I have! Let's see, I had a wonderful story time at my library, sure only two kids showed up, but that's better than none, and they were usual :) And we read my favorite book The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. After the story time it was down to the dreaded Orthodontist, for a long two hour appointment to get my braces off (they've only been on for four years, no biggy)!! That appointment couldn't have been any boring, and if it wasn't for the fact that I was getting them off, I probably would have gone to sleep ;) Then the Town Meeting (scary music here, please). This town meeting will show if I have a job for another year, being a librarian it's a huge issue. We had a surprise when the selectmen made a motion to level fund us (yay!) someone stood up to make an amendment, Uh Oh! He started out saying "I would like to fund the W Public Library. . ." I was absolutely scared! "Zero dollars". OH CRAP!!!! Now usually I would be happy for this, BUT if WPL goes, then WWPL goes because we need accreditation. Making up the 5 hours which are needed by the MBLC (Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners) is easy, I would probably pick them up and they would be volunteer, BUT making up the $150,000 that we need to keep the accreditation, thanks to our lovely MAR would be impossible, fortunately the amendment was voted no, but the motion to level fund both libraries was passed (yay no cut!!). Then onto the family business! As you all know my father sells fire truck, well his boss is working on a truck with the town, and dad is helping. So last night there was a secret ballot for this Fire Truck, it lost by two votes, it was a two thirds vote, and the yes vote needed 113, there was only 111. It was then called to a re-vote, after most of the fire fighters left! Luckily, and with help of God it passed!

All in All yesterday was just a brief view into my life!

P.S. Bro #2 has deemed politics very boring and confusing!

How To Fix A Mess Up

So as you all know, I finally got my cell phone and is not the only breathing teenager without one. Well when we went and got the phones, I was given the opportunity for only $5 for 350 texts in & out. So I was texting all last month with the idea that I have 350 texts and that no way in God's Green Living Earth that I was going to use all of those last month. Well Nextel sends the costumer, Dad, a letter explaining the changes on his account, so as I was looking through this letter I saw that my number which ends in 47 didn't have texting, but mom's number which ends in 49 did. Oh crap! I've been texting all the time, under a notion that I had texting, and no I'm going to pay a fine for not having texting! So I was kind of annoyed that Nextel made such a stupid move and put texting on the wrong phone, and then dad's mad because he's thinking that I sent 350 texts all last month, so he is mad that it's going to be like a $300+ for my texts, which I said I'll pay, but that didn't help him.

So finally today, since dad for some reason will not call Nextel, I gave Nextel a call. I talked to Erin & Donna, and they helped me fix this issue! So not only do I have my 350 texting, but they also credited the account for the texts that I did send.

Nextel, you have yet helped me realize how amazing you are, and will have another life long costumer with all the helpfulness that you provide!

I'm Still A Kid At Heart

As I'm typing this lovely blog post, the rain is finally winding down from last nights storm. The past couple really hot & humid days here in Massachusetts usually end up with thunder storms around midnight. I have to say, one of my biggest fears, and I've had this fear at both houses that I've lived at. Is that during a thunder storm, the lightning is going to hit a tree, and the three will fall on top of my bedroom, or me. The odds that this will happen are low, I know that, but my room has trees on two sides and they're very large trees at that, so I have had that fear. With that being said I cannot sleep when ever there is a thunder storm right on top of me! Who can? So, I usually am down a couple hours of sleep, also, but that's not the point. The lightning, I love the lightning, but only when I'm not sleeping and the whole family is sitting together and watching it together, when it's just me, in the middle of the night, trying to get to sleep, and it lights up my whole room, well then Cae isn't all that happy about it.

The last really bad thunder storm we had was a couple weeks ago, and it lasted for about thirty to forty-five minutes (maybe more, I don't know I was tired and just wanted to go to bed!), so finally I was so fed up with this storm that I went to mom and dad's room and sat on the corner of their bed, they were both up, and plus my dog Max was freaking out, so he got to be on mommy & daddy's bed (he usually isn't allowed on the bed). Last night, not only was I was too tired to actually get up walk across the house (hoping that the lights are on so I don't fall down my stairs), walk up a flight of stairs, and then hope that mom and dad didn't lock their bedroom door. Last night it seemed like way to much energy! Instead, I figured out why I go to mom & dad, they're my security blanket. So last night I was with my other security blanket, God, I prayed and the storm eventually calmed down, and I wasn't as scared as I usually am.

So despite the fact that I may be a teenager, I'm still a little kid (in Thumper P.J.s!) who is scared by the thunder storms.

Sibling Rivalry

It's Flashback Saturday for Cae!! From Mocha with Linda and it's a day late!

Okay, I'm first going to apologize about not doing this on Friday, my bad. . .Completely forgot yesterday was Friday! Second, this is going to be a really good one because Cae has two siblings, and they drive her up the wall!
Yesterday's prompt:
Do you have siblings? (If not, keep reading - I'll get to you.) How many and are they boys or girls? Where do you fall in the birth order? How did you view your "spot" in the family compared with the others? If you are the oldest, did you resent the things the youngest got to do that you didn't? If the youngest, what did you want to do like the older ones? And if you are more of a middle child, how did that impact you? How do you think your birth order shaped your personality? Did you and your siblings like each other growing up or did you fight all the time? Are you close now? Or at least friends with each other?! What memories stand out about you and your siblings?
If you are an only child, how did you like that? Were you glad to have all the attention or did you want to have a brother or sister? What advantages were there to being an only child? What disadvantages? Which side of the fence is greener?!
For everyone, did your sibling experiences (or lack thereof!) affect your decision to have kids or to have a certain number?

Siblings, I have two younger brothers Bro #1 is 2 years, okay 22 months, younger than I am and Bro #2 is three years younger then I am (he also is my foster bro). Bro #1 and I very rarely get along, unless it's like some important day and we are forced to get along, because he is not really much younger than I am, and he is very mature for his age (some days even more mature then me), he and I are almost, see that word, it's the key word, Almost treated like equals. He and I both have a chore list, his is Compost, Garbage, Mow the Lawn during the Spring & Summer (he gets paid $25 for the lawn since we have a little over an acre of land and he does it with the push mower, it's tough work, I did it, once or twice), and sweep the upstairs part of the house, oh ya and he needs to do the dishes on Wednesday & Friday! Me on the other hand gets to clean the kitty litter, sweep the breezeway and my part of the house, do my laundry (that's a no brainer), and do the dishes on Monday & Thursday! With Bro #2 being a new edition in the home, he also gets his fair share of chores, which he isn't used to so he gets to sweep the main part of the house, and wash the dishes on Tuesday & Saturday.

With Bro #2 being a Foster Child, he does get away with things that Bro #1 and I would never do in our dreams, and if we ever did we would be shot and killing by one if, not both of our parents. So it's kind of tough seeing that, and there are times where Bro #2 does something that I have done (I won't name anything) and he doesn't really get punished, while if I did I would get like bathroom duty or something gross like that! So it's tough with Bro #2 in the picture, Bro #1 on the other hand very rarely gets in trouble, and as S has said "he's an angel" well I cutest shirt when I was five, and this shirt, if switched describes him it says "Angel in disguise" just change the Angel to Devil and you have Bro #1, now he isn't that bad, but he isn't being Sainted any time soon (it probably doesn't help that we're protestant).

Since Bro #2 has lived with us Bro #1 & I have become closer, and a lot nicer to each other. Very rarely do we actually fight over stupid things (See that S, very rarely do we even fight!). Sorry, my boss, S, has a notion that I am evil older sister to my younger brothers, but she hasn't seen what they do. They act all like angels when S is around, okay, sorry totally off of topic.

This one memory involves Dad, Mom, Bro #1, and I in dad's truck we're on our way home and I said "I finished my book!", out of the front seat we get "Of course we'll have Cantaloupe, Cae". Bro #1 and I just looked at mom, and Bro #1 asked "What the heck?!", "Did Cae just ask if we'll have Cantaloupe tomorrow at breakfast?" mom asked, "No, mom I said I finished my book," I responded. If being a mother makes me half deaf, then maybe I'll reconsider. Also I heard that there are blood tests involved with pregnancy, so that's a turn off. Maybe I'll adopt kids, I've always wanted a big family, but if I ever do actually get pregnant, which both S & my mom will be like "You said, you're never having kids". I would only was maybe five running around my house!

A Random Dozenless June

I was recently informed, okay I was looking for the Random Dozen questions for this week on Lidna's blog, and saw that there will be no Random Dozens for the month of June! Lid is burned out, and hopefully will be coming back in July with a "New and Improved" Random Dozen! So I'm giong to apologize ahead of time for me not being as good as I usually am for Wednesday blog posts, but I will try my best! Until July, you're gonna have to bear with me on Wednesdays, now if Linda at Mocha with Linda takes the month of June off, then I'm in serious blogging trouble!! So there will be no linking to Mr. Linky today :(

"Can I Have My Buns Toasted"

I have to say, this is another Fostering related blog post, but it's a good one. Since Bro #2 has been in the family, Bro #1 and I have become a lot closer, before I was kind of a jerk to him, and Bro #2 has made the two of unite, because we really do need to learn on each other. Mom has dad, and Bro #1 has me. Now don't get me wrong Bro #1 still bugs me to earth's extent! But I guess I am a little bit nicer to Bro #1 then I usually am. For instance Bro #1 had to come to the library board meeting with me & mom, and although he was bugging me, he and I were both laughing. He is actually making me lunch currently, we're having cheese burgers. So I asked him if I could have my buns toasted. The look on his face was getting ready to say something, I quickly added "the ones made out of bread". He then said okay and went out to start the grill.

Even though we have out tough days being a foster family like yesterday, we also have our really good days like today and last night (Bro #2 helped me finish painting my bedroom, and apologized!). I have to say being a foster family has changed not only me, but also my family :)
